Normal Distribution

Statistical distribution which is symmetric around the mean (frequency of observations gradually declines at the same rate up and down from the mean). Its shape is popularly known as the bell curve.

Only two parameters are sufficient to define a normal distribution: mean and standard deviation.

Because of its simplicity it is often used in financial (and option) models, although most financial assets have return distributions which deviate from normal distribution to some extent.
