Black Swan

Event that is extremely unlikely, unpredictable, and has very high impact. 9/11, the financial crisis of 2007-2009, Brexit, or the rise of the internet are examples of black swans.

The term was introduced to the financial community by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his books Fooled by Randomness (2001) and Black Swan (2007).
