VIX Closes above 17 First Time Since 5 September

S&P500 Back to the Bottom of the Range

On Friday S&P500 recorded the greatest daily decline since 21 June, losing 1.66% and closing at 1433.19, near the bottom of the 1430-1465 range again. It has erased almost all of the gains made Monday through Wednesday and ended up only 4.60 points for the week.

VIX Highest in 1.5 Months

While S&P500 did not get below the last week’s low, the VIX (CBOE Volatility Index) traded as high as 17.60 on Friday afternoon and closed at 17.06, above 17 for the first time since 5 September.

VIX Futures Curve

VIX futures curve shifted upwards and returned back where it had ended the last week. It had been down 0.7-1.5 points on Wednesday compared to last Friday’s close.
